Chungkhai War Cemetery, Kanchanaburi

Chungkhai (or Chong Khai) War Cemetery is located on the north bank of the Khwae Noi River just 2.1 kilometres from its junction with the Mae Khlong River in the city of Kanchanaburi.
Chungkhai was one of the major base camps on the Thai/Burma railway (the Death Railway). It contained a hospital and a church and this cemetery, designed by Colin St Clair Oakes, was created from the original burial ground started by them. It now contains 1,690 identified graves, 300 of them Dutch, the majority of whom died in the camp hospital.
