Tuesday 27th November
(Cont. from Page 1)........ancient paintings and pottery. The fact that so many precious artifacts are found outside China is down to strong Thai/Chinese association at government and personal level. I am certainly impressed by the terra-cotta soldiers thought to be the only example outside China. Entry 50 baht. Wat Yanasangwararam Woramahawihan (วัดญาณสังวรารามวรมหาวิหาร)……..This temple complex was constructed in 1976 for Somdet Phra Yanasangwon, the present Supreme Patriarch, and later supported by His Majesty the King. At the entrance are situated international pavilions presenting each country’s national architectural style around the pond. Within the compound of the temple are the Mondop where a replica of the Buddha’s footprint is enshrined, a large Chedi containing the relics of the Lord Buddha, as well as, his enlightened followers, and Wihan Phra Yanaret. It is open from 8.00am-4.00pm and entry is free. I found this complex a little difficult to negotiate without the presence of English information boards. Dress should be appropriate in line with other important religious sites. Phra Phuttha Maha Wachira Uttamopat Satsada........This is a laser carved image of the Lord Buddha on the cliff of Khao Chee Chan (Chee Chan Mountain) situated a few kilometers from Wihan Sian. It is the site of meditation for Wat Yannasangwararam in the area of Khao Chee Chan, Sattahip district, Chonburi Province. It is a royalty initiated project constructed under the unity of Thais from all over the country to commemorate the auspicious occasion of the 50th Anniversary of his Majesty the King’s Accession to the Throne. It is an area of peace and tranquility administered by the Office of National Buddhism in Chonburi Province and preserved by the Royal Thai Marine Corps and Royal Thai Navy. The base of Khao Chee Chan is tastefully landscaped with tropical plants and water features. Entry is free. Bang Saray…….Situated about 19 kilometres south of Pattaya this erstwhile sleepy fishing village is attracting some attention from developers but still boasts quite undisturbed beaches unlike anything in Pattaya or Jomtien. After a late start it’s a late lunch at Bang Saray Seafood restaurant that leads to the pier. This provides a magical backdrop to an excellent meal. Strolling along the pier I witness the fishing trawlers preparing for their evening departure, the crew busying themselves with last minute chores or simply passing time in idle chat or staring into space occasionally casting a glance at me.
