Compared with traditional Thai temples, you would think Wat Pa Non Sawan is an example from another planet: But no! Here there is ‘hell on earth’. Demons, Dieties, Dragons, Monsters and just about everything you just don’t wish to see walking down your main street. It's been described as a must-see attraction but for all the wrong reasons. Some have suggested that there is hidden meaning to the weird sculptures. It’s not as if the ‘scenes from heaven and hell’, are anything new; they are found at other temples in Thailand. After all there is some logic in the fact that if you scare the living daylights out of people they will pray for salvation and hand over their cash; plenty of examples of that throughout history. Here however, you could well be utterly confused as to what was in the mind of the designer, a mind that is possessed perhaps tormented, a case for men in white coats. Judge for yourself but mainstream this is not!
