Wat Putthabat Phu Kwai Ngoen is located 12 kms east of Chiang Khan town heading along highway 211. After the left-hand turning to Kaeng Khut Khu the temple is signposted on the right.
Phutthabat refers to the copy Buddha footprint which lays inside a magnificent mondrop or pagoda recently constructed. Phu Kwai Ngoen is the Silver Buffalo Mountain on the slopes of which the temple is located. The temple is built in Lanna/Lang Xiang style.
The temple was founded by a monk who was born in the ‘Year of the Rabbit’. It is a feature of this temple that an extended pen exists containing a large number of rabbits and other creatures. By making a donation/giving alms, lettuce and pellets can be obtained which you can distribute by walking though the pen.
The temple also offers religious souvenirs including some interesting items made from gemstones. Finally a short walk to the top of the hill offers outstanding views from Phu Kwai Ngoen including back across the Mekong River.
