Wat Chedi Mongkol, Lampang

Wat Chedi Mongkol was constructed some 300 years ago during Burmese occupation, the land having been cleared of trees to construct a cantonment for Burmese troops away from the town. There is mention of the gallows so one can imagine what went on here. The barracks were used later by Lanna and Shan troops. There has been no attempt to renovate the chedi and teakwood building on site as if the intention is to leave it as a monument to its infamous past.
