Wat Sucha Daram is now part of the Wat Phra Kaew Don Tao Sucha Daram complex. It was built in reverence to Mrs Suchada who had intervened to ensure the safety of refugees from Chaing Saen after the city had been sacked by Rama I forces. The viharn was built from teakwood in Chiang Saen style in recognition of the former prominence of the Chiang Saen State and its art forms including contemporary mural paintings.
