Wat Sri Chum was built in 1890 during the reign of King Rama V by wealthy Burmese, Jong Taka U Yo, his son in law, U Mong Yee, and the stepmother, Pom Boriboon. The temple is located on Thipwan Road, Tambon Suan Dok in Lampang. It is a temple with beautiful Burmese art inside including a gold pagoda of Mon – Burmese art. Buddha's relics brought from Myanmar in 1906 are located inside. Wat Sri Chum was announced as a historic site by the Fine Art Department in 1981. In 1992, the old viharn unfortunately caught fire which caused severe damage. Only the beautiful carvings on the handrails, delicately carved as if curtains hung down to the staircase, with a roof covering the stairs remained. This viharn, therefore, was rebuilt in the same architectural style.
