Located in Nikon Bamrung Road, Wat Mahrathat Phra Aram Luang is the royal temple of Phetchabun. This monastery has existed as long as Phetchabun town itself having a 3 - meter high Sukhothai style Phum Khao Binth design pagoda. The history of this temple can be traced back to 543 AD when King Petchabun ordered the temple to be built. In March 1967, excavation was made by the Department of Fine Arts and several Buddha images of various periods were found. The temple houses a number of ancient chedis of Sukhothai style. On religious days, religious ceremonies are held here.
