The Thai-Laos border market is located near Chaloem Phra Kiat in the border district of that name in northeastern Nan Province. It is reached from highway 101 from Nan City running through Pua. Nearby is the Huai Kon immigration office but the border crossing here is not listed as an international crossing point. However the border market provides a valuable source of trade with Laotians who are allowed to cross the border to obtain supplies not easily available to them in Laos. Far from being a souvenir hunters paradise the border market deals with fresh produce and every day wares, much of it hauled great distances from Thailand’s interior. Even seafood from the Gulf of Siam is available here despite is distance from this source of around 600kms.
