The Weapons Museum or Than It-Thi was named after Colonel It-Thi Simarak, a military officer who played an important role in seizing Khao Kho back from the Communists who had occupied it after the 1973 uprising. Its location on the top of Khao Kho Mountain offers outstanding views of the surrounding Khao Kho Range. The museum itself offers an interesting outdoor collection of military hardware including a Bird Dog light aircraft, various calibre howitzers, earth moving equipment and heavy machine guns, all indicative of the heavy fighting in the area. In a small bunker small arms and biographical information are displayed. A video covering the campaign is shown periodically but this is only in Thai. However most exhibits have English captions. Just a short distance along the ridge is the War Memorial, an imposing obelisk, Replica redoubts are sited nearby affording spectacular views of the Khao Kho Range. This site can be reached by talking Highway 21 north from Petchabun for 10 km, then taking local road 2258 to the left, another 13 km, then turning right onto local road 2196 where it will be signposted. The entry fee to the museum is 20 baht.
