Location: Vang Vieng, Vientiane Province, Laos
Description: Cave
Date Visited: 10th March 2014
Xang Cave is reached from the south end of town; right-turn at the sign to Jam Mee Guesthouse. This cave is typically reached by a steep staircase, well lit and ideal for a self-guided tour. The area below the cave is ideal for just taking it easy. There is a fee for crossing the bridge and a typical entry fee of 10,000 kip. The Cave is an ideal place to cool off during hot summer days. According to history, this site has not only been used as a great bunker during the war with the Chinese in the early 19th century but also the general home of the migrating people who later settled to the south of the town to grow vegetables. That is the reason why the cave has played an important role in Laos people's life.
