The City Pillar Shrine is located to the north of Wat Phra Kaew and is believed to give spiritual protection to the city. The construction of the Pillar Shrine resembles a Prang. The original Pillar Shrine, believed to be more than 700 years old, was brought from the Historical Park. It is a sacred place where people come to worship. Many people driving past the shrine blow their horns to show respect.
