Wat Karuna, Sapphaya District, Chainat Province

Located across from the Chao Phraya Dam reception building, Wat Karunna enshrines a large sandstone Buddha image named Phra Phutthamaha Sila, widely regarded as the most beautiful in Chainat. It is believed it was constructed during the early Ayutthaya period (1351-1767). The image is revered amongst locals, and in 1957, both His Majesty the King and Her Majesty the Queen paid their respects to the statue at the opening of the Chao Phraya Dam.
