News Updates for SpaceX Crew Dragon


November 2020 -
16th: Docking of Crew Dragon with the Space Station on the Crew-1 mission occured late on Monday (16th), early morning on the 17th UK time, followed by Crew-1 ingress. Coverage on all major space news platforms. Transition to the ISS removes SpaceX involvement for the next 6 months apart from periodic health checks of the Dragon capsule which will be needed for the return to Earth at the end of the mission.

15th: Astronauts fly with SpaceX in landmark launch for commercial spaceflight....view. A Crew Dragon capsule ferried four astronauts into space Sunday night after a rumbling departure from the Kennedy Space Center in Florida, setting off on a 27-hour pursuit of the International Space Station on SpaceX’s first operational crew rotation flight to the orbiting outpost. 8th: The excitment is building for the upcoming launch of the Crew-1 mission to the ISS, now scheduled for launch on 15th November. The full NASA pre and post launch schedule can be viewed here. Meanwhile the static test firing of the booster has been cancelled for the day due to adverse weather conditions. Weather will play an important part in determining 'Go for Launch' as scheduled.

SpaceX’s Crew Dragon spacecraft arrived at Kennedy Space Center’s Launch Complex 39A on Thursday, Nov. 5, after making the trek from its processing facility at nearby Cape Canaveral Air Force Station in Florida.
October 2020 -
10th: SpaceX crew launch delayed to assess Merlin engine concern....view. NASA said Saturday (10th) that the launch of four astronauts on SpaceX’s first operational Crew Dragon mission to the International Space Station has been delayed from Oct. 31 until “no sooner than early-to-mid November,” allowing time for SpaceX to resolve an issue with Falcon 9 rocket engines that halted a recent launch attempt with a GPS navigation satellite. Computers controlling the final seconds of the countdown aborted the mission just two seconds prior to liftoff.
September 2020 -
30th: NASA and SpaceX Teams Prepare for Crew-1 Mission....view. Teams involved with NASA’s SpaceX Crew-1 mission held a series of briefings Tuesday at the agency’s Johnson Space Center about the first crew rotation mission to the International Space Station as part of the agency’s Commercial Crew Program.
23rd: Axiom finalizing agreements for private astronaut mission to space station....view. The chief executive of Axiom Space says agreements with NASA, SpaceX, and fare-paying passengers should be finalized in the coming weeks for the launch of the first all-private crew to the International Space Station in October 2021, and former NASA astronaut Michael Lopez-Alegria is set to command the mission.
August 2020 -
22nd: Axiom signs deal with SpaceX to launch four Space Tourists aboard Crew Dragon....view. Axiom Space, a start-up from Houston, Texas, signed a deal with SpaceX to launch a crew of three private passengers that will fly with a professionally trained astronaut commander atop a Falcon 9 rocket aboard the Crew Dragon spacecraft. They will embark on a 10-day voyage to the International Space Station (ISS) sometime during the second half of 2021.

18th: The SpaceX Crew Dragon spacecraft for the company’s first operational flight with astronauts to the International Space Station as part of NASA’s Commercial Crew Program has arrived in Florida.
12th: Back at Cape Canaveral, SpaceX’s Crew Dragon capsule preps for next mission....view. Fresh off a 64-day test flight to the International Space Station with astronauts Doug Hurley and Bob Behnken, SpaceX’s first human-rated Crew Dragon spaceship is back at Cape Canaveral for inspections, refurbishment and upgrades before flying to the station again with a four-person crew next spring.
7th: Dragon Endeavour, that carried Bob Behnken and Doug Hurley to the ISS, has returned to Port Canaveral with much fanfare. The capsule will soon begin preparations for its next mission, Crew-2!...view.
2nd: Astronauts back on Earth after ‘extraordinary’ Dragon test flight....view. Returning home after a 64-day test flight, astronauts Doug Hurley and Bob Behnken blazed through Earth’s atmosphere and parachuted into the Gulf of Mexico inside a SpaceX Crew Dragon spacecraft Sunday, a final major step before NASA formally certifies the crew capsule for operational missions to the International Space Station.

31st: Crew Dragon astronauts ready for re-entry, splashdown....view. With Hurricane Isaias threatening Florida’s East Coast, astronauts Douglas Hurley and Robert Behnken are awaiting a go-ahead on plans to undock from the International Space Station Saturday, setting up a fiery plunge to splashdown Sunday, presumably in the Gulf of Mexico, to close out a 64-day flight.
29th: Return Flight Readiness Review briefing: The return of NASA's Space X Demo-2 test flight with astronauts @Astro_Doug and @AstroBehnken from the Space Station remains a "go".
28th: NASA Announces Astronauts to Fly on SpaceX Crew-2 Mission to Space Station....view.
25th: Crew Dragon recovery ship GO Navigator has departed from Port Canaveral and is heading to the Gulf of Mexico to support the Demo-2 splashdown....view.
23rd: While in orbit, astronauts Bob Behnken and Doug Hurley performed a habitability assessment of the SpaceX Crew Dragon. This included: opening and closing the hatch, operating the waste system and moving cargo back into the vehicle....view.

21st: The Exp 63 crew demonstrated that the SpaceX Crew Dragon's systems work at the station. They verified that astronauts can live, work, and sleep while the vehicle is operating in space....view.
17th: NASA has comfirmed a target date for the return of Crew Dragon Demo-2. The capsule with astronauts Doug Hurley and Bob Behnken will undock from the ISS on 1st August with splashdown ocurring on the 2nd....more. While the primary task for the two astronauts was the systems check-out for Crew Dragon's first manned flight, paving the way for the first full-crewed mission, their extended stay on the ISS had resulted in valuable work being carried out particularlty the final phase of battery upgrades to the ISS.
8th: NASA says that four of the five crew on the International Space Station tested the "comfort factors" of SpaceX's Crew Dragon Endeavour today, in a one hour demonstration of the spacecraft's habitability.
June 2020 -
20th: SpaceX Crew Dragon spacecraft put through its paces at orbital space station....view. SpaceX’s first human-proven Crew Dragon spacecraft is being put through its paces in orbit by NASA and even Roscosmos astronauts.
9th: according to Ken Bowersox, the acting associate administrator for NASA’s human exploration and operations mission directorate, Crew Dragon for the Demo-2 mission, since given the name Endeavour, could remain at the ISS until August. The performance of the capsule is being closely monitored but is doing really well allowing NASA astronauts Doug Hurley and Bob Behnken to maximise their stay at the ISS. They will return to Earth prior to the Crew-1 mission planned for late August....view.
