An ancient religious site, Wat Phaya Wat was founded at a time when the Kingdom of Lanna was at its height in the 15th century. Its architecture is heavily influenced by Lanna style similar to temples in Lamphun Province. Its main ubosot (ordination hall) houses a Buddha statue called ‘Phra Chao Sai Fon’, or the Buddha of rain, which, according to local belief, has the power to summon rain.
