Wat Phrathat Sri Song Rak is one of the most sacred Buddhist places in Thailand. Song Rak (two love) is the key to this temples existence. According to legend the Lao-style white pagoda was built during 1560-63 as a symbol of a mutual friendship between King Maha Chakraphat (Kingdom of Ayutthaya) and King Chai Ya Chet Ta of Lan Chang (Kingdom of Sri Sattana Khanahut), now Vientiane, who formed an alliance against a Burmese invasion force. It is a famous religious venue for couples to pray for everlasting love. Red flowers and red attires are prohibited in the temple. The pagoda is worth a visit, especially during the Phi Ta Khon celebration held there every May or June. It can be reached on the left of highway 2013 approaching Dan Sai from the southwest. Opening hours are 8.00 am - 5.00 pm.
